The Whole Foods/HiLo Foods hot pink QR Code
- The code brings you to this image:
- Hi-Lo foods, now the site of Whole Foods. This story received a lot of attention from the community and representatives in Jamaica Plain (JP). The thing I found interesting is that many folks didn’t mind. As can happen with discussion of gentrification, often the most vocal people in these debates were the gentrifiers themselves (both marginal- and super-gentrifiers.) At the end of the day, property values didn’t rise around it and it did create some jobs. It turns out that everyone likes Whole Foods. The only thing I have heard folks complain about was the fact that the store is too small. I do miss Hi Lo sometimes, as it was never nearly as crowded.
- Washington and Westminster St., Roxbury (near Egleston Square JP)
This property recently sold and hopefully will soon become a productive space like the BNN (Public Access Community TV) and 826 Boston right across the street. This is in Roxbury, but many people would consider it to be in the JP neighborhood of Egleston Square.

I posted this QR Code around the JP neighborhood of Boston, too:
